In 2012 I...

It's that time again. Time to recap/review that past year. You can check out 2011's recap post here. Overall, 2012 has been a good year. The year started out great, there were some low points but it ended on a good note. I am really looking forward to 2013. The number 13 has always been a lucky and favourite number for me. (Hello, my birthday is on the 13th and so is my Moms.)
We'll see what happens!

Here is a list of some of the highlights from the year, in random order.
In 2012 I...
 created lots of pretty artwork.
shared a table with Justin at Fan Expo for the second time.
went to the Toronto Zombie Walk again.
painted my nails pretty colours.
watched just over 60 movies in theatre! (Does not include the handful of movies I saw twice in theatre.) Whoa!!
did a few what i wore posts.
finally got my first smart phone and joined instagram!
finished working my first animation job, then got my first freelance animation job where I worked from home. Starting the new year with my third one. :]
went to the Toronto Zoo a few times and a first time with Justin.
developed a lot of film, and still have a bit of film waiting to be developed.
used up a lot of my rainbow mini instax film. It's almost all gone!
visited the dog park as much as I could.
made things, like pretty bows, mushroom and cupcake rings.
thrifted a bit.
Other things that happened in 2012;
Joined another sketchbook project - limited edition. Made some yummy foods like cupcakes and pretzels. Upgraded my digital cameras. Bought a cintiq. Finally got a fisheye camera (and it was on sale). Watched and re-watched a lot of shows/movies on Netflix (like; Xena, Roseanne, Hey Arnold etc.) Found a bunch of new blogs to follow. Visited the drive-in. Had lots of frozen yogurt. Ate lots of sushi (and some homemade sushi). Bought ugly sweaters. Relaxed by the fire pit. Grew a bunch of plants (avacado). Found and fixed my old record player. Took lots and lots of pictures of Cap.

I also want to thank you all for following me. Not just that, for all the sweet comments, for liking my stuff and supporting my artwork. You guys are all so awesome!

Hope your year was a good one and if it wasn't that great, then I hope you try to look back at the good stuff instead of the bad. Stay positive!

See you next year. :]
(Or for some it's already the new year, then happy new year!)

Christmas break

Usually Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year for me (and my family) Easter being second. But this year, I just didn't feel that into it. I wanted to get into it. But it just didn't happen. Anyways, for Christmas I ended up visiting Justin's family.
And here is how Captain's visit went...after the first day, it was full on dog fight and both the family dogs are twice Cap's size, covered with fat and muscule!
By the end of our visit Cap had cut his lip a bunch of times, had cuts in both his ears, had a bloody eye for a day and lost one of his front teeth. So if you see some red marks in any of the pictures, don't be alarmed. It's just a bit of blood. Luckily he is totally fine (he's been sleeping lots.) and nothing serious happened to him. (there was a lot of freaking out on my part... I thought he was going to lose his eye!) The visit wasn't all about dog fights though; We watched a bunch of movies, Captain played with the nicer dog, (okay, both dogs are nice, the other dog isn't evil they just don't get along) we ate good food, played some games, slept in, took naps and watched The Hobbit.
On our way.
The nicer/less evil dog. Haha, he 'plays' in the backyard by pushing a bowl around with his nose. And licks up any dirt he finds on it. He likes his bowls clean.
Funny/blurry action shot.
It snowed (yay!) and we wanted to get some nice pictures of our dogs playing in the snow.
It was nice to see Cap stretch his legs. It was also nice to not have to walk him, especially in the early mornings/late nights.
Best buddies! Also best shot I could get of them together.
And here are both of the family dogs. They know how to pose together for a picture.
The last two pictures of Cap are just too cute, to not post.
Hope your Christmas/holiday/break was decent.

Goals for 2012: Recap

Remember when I made some 2012 goals? And then I did a little update on them around the 6 month mark? Well now it's time to recap how I did.
 1. Paint - once a month. (Yes and yes)
I pretty much had this goal down at the 6 month update. The way my desk is setup now, I can have my 'painting table' right behind me. So after I do a layer of paint I can just turn around and work on some digital stuff while it dries. Pretty sha-weet set up. Check out some of the things I've been painting.

2. Get more crafty - make a doll. (Nope)
Sadly I never got around to starting a doll. I did get more crafty though. I made a bunch of bows for Fan Expo, which did great. So I'll be making those again.

3. Sew - try embroidery. (Yes)
I did do a few embroideries near the start of the year. (you can find them here and here.) But I haven't done anything new with it since.

4. Visit the Zoo (Yes)
Yes, went to the Zoo, and then I went again. It was great. I'll be going again atleast once next year too, to see the new pandas.

5. Sign up for Fan Expo 2012. (Yes)
Yep, we went to Fan Expo this year. It was great. Every year it gets better for us. We like doing these expos/cons so much that we signed up for a smaller comic con in early 2013.

6. Update my Camera. (Yes)
I got a new Pentax K-R and love it!

7. Sell online. (Nope)
I really wanted to get my online store all set up after Fan Expo but it just wasn't in the cards. I basically just didn't have enough funds for it at the time. Hoping to get started on this one in the new year.

8. Be healthier. (Nope)
Eh. I'm just going to say no for this one. I'd do great for a few days then pig out for a week straight. I just got bad habits. I'm hoping to sign up for some sort of class in the new year. Even if it's just once a week. Something new and fun to do, to get me moving.

Did you make any goals for 2012, how did you do? :]

Dec 21, 2012

1. What a pretty boy!
2. Forgot about our anniversary this year but was nicely surprised when I got home.
3. Trying out red lipstick on my tiny lips. Don't know if I like it or not.
4. Found a bunch of new Pop figures that I want/need.
5. One of my xmas gifts, an owl coin bank. (I think this is my first owl related thing.)
6. New mug. Only used it once so far because I'm afraid of breaking it... because I broke my last new mug within seconds of taking it out of the bag. :[
7. A new dress!
8. Found Brickleberry shirts at Hot Topic!
9. Best dinner ever at Lone Star.
10. Cuddling with a sleepy/lazy Cap.
11. Captain being adorable!!
12. We've had a lot of game nights here.
Hope everyone has a safe and awesome weekend/holiday/christmas!

Photo an hour: December 7th

I probably didn't pick the best day to do a 'photo an hour', it was all foggy and rainy outside. But what the hell, I was in a photo mood. Here is my day from about two weeks ago...
Slept in a bit because I knew soon I wouldn't be able to. Woke up to Cap snuggling with me. (Yay) He then followed me into the living room where he plopped down again.
The lighting was some-what good in the bedroom so I took some pictures of my nails.
Had a pizza pocket for lunch!

Took Cap out for his walk. It was an ugly day.
I went out again to the bank. Saw this cute guy on my way back. He was very friendly.
2 - 3PM
Did a bit of painting while I photoshopped some pictures and did other internet stuff.
4 - 5PM
I decided to make pretzels. Sadly, someone forgot to mention that we were out of parchment paper... Long story short my pretzels came out burnt. Parchment paper is very important!
Got picked up by my little brother and we headed back to Cambridge for a little visit. Then I stopped taking pictures because I was tired and it was dark.

Dotty girl painting + WIP

Woo, finally finished this baby. This took so much longer than I thought it would. So many dots! If I had to pick between doing this in photoshop or by paint, I'll take photoshop, anyday. It just takes more time using paint, and it's much easier to screw up. But I think it came out pretty cool.
Can you believe that I was working on this for about a month? Not every day for a month, haha. But it's been out on the art table for most of November.
No 'proper' photos of this one since we don't currently have a working scanner and it's been all dark and rainy outside for days.
If you look closely, you can see the water in my jar slowly going down.
