Got Questions?

I just have to finish some little bits of work here and there but for the most part my break has started! (Woo!) And on my way home yesterday, I got to thinking about the free time I'll have for the next couple of weeks. So why not try some new, fun things on the blog? One of the things I was thinking about doing was a Q&A video (or a post?)

So, do you have any questions for me? About me, the blog, my art or whatever?!
Have you always wanted to see something on the blog? Because now is the time to ask!

If I get enough questions I'll try to do a video(!) If I get just a few, maybe a blog post? If I get nothing, then that's okay too. I'm not expecting much, just thought it would be fun.

Ask any questions in the comments below, on facebook or email me, angelszafranko(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Sponsor in February

Guys, February is going to be a great month! Let me tell you why. First of all, all the stuff I said in my Life Lately post! Finishing a great job, and starting a new one soon. But before the new job starts I get a little over a month off to do whatever I want! I'll be doing some new paintings, watching some new movies, sewing some new things, fabric shopping, maybe some thrifting, updating my shop and so more!
I expect Feb to be a fun filled month, so why not come along for the ride? Check out my Ads page for more info. I also added a new size. Now there is a large ad space available at an affordable price. I am also accepting a few ad swaps through my small ads. (Please contact me first) I accept both blogs and businesses. :]

Life Lately

I thought, this year I'd try to do a bit of an update every month, (or maybe every other month) on whats been going on with me and my life. So here is what's up...
My current contract is wrapping up soon. Very soon, like next week! This is both a sad and happy time for me. Sad because this contract has been my longest one yet and I have learned so much from the people I've worked with and the shows I've worked on. (I loved working on Grojband!) But it's also a happy time because I am due for a break. I love animation but you do get burnt out sometimes. You need breaks to relax and enjoy other things. I'm excited to sleep in a bit. Take the dog out for super long walks. Paint all day. Do some sewing. Update my shop. Try some DIY's on my blog maybe? Visit some places with Justin. Go on dates during the day etc.

I also have some great news too! I got a new job lined up for mid March. So my break won't be for too long. Just long enough for me to rest up. I am super excited about this new job, it's going to be something a bit different because this is a kids show. Like for little kids, but I'm excited to see how things go and to learn some new things. This also means I'll be working in a studio again. So that'll be something to get used to. No more working from home. I'll miss that.
So yeah, the news of this new job is great because before that I assumed I would be on EI (unemployment) until I found something. This isn't a bad thing, but it would have meant; no new tattoos, no saving money, no movies as often, no 'spending' basically. But now that I know my EI won't be for too long, I can just enjoy it and the first thing I'm doing with my first pay check is getting my next tattoo! Oh how exciting. So many things to look forward to this year. Maybe we'll move? Maybe we'll go on a trip somewhere. Maybe we'll get another dog!

Whats new and exciting with you?

Bugging Captain

I feel like it's been a while since I posted anything about Captain. He's still here and we still love him. What better way to start your day, and weekend than a silly video. Below is a video of Justin playing (annoying/bugging) Captain. And me giggling like an idiot... video is a bit long, but it gets good.
Well at least I think so! Ha. Dogs...am I riiiight!?

More Hand Stamped Bows

After making the eyeball stamp and using that to make some eyeball hair bows. I ended up making a couple more stamps and eventually made some bows out of them too. Now I love these new bows, especially the tooth one. But there is one thing kind of wrong with them and it's bugging me a little...
The white fabric I used is sort of thin and see through, (I don't remember where I got this fabric, I've had it in a bag for a while now.) It's not bad quality, its just thin... But anyways, you can see the gray-ish thread I used when I first started sewing the bows. Usually you'd use white thread but at the time I didn't have any and I didn't think it would show through. I guess, I was wrong and now I regret it! It's bugging me a bit when I see it. It's not horrible, It's not super noticeable, only if you look closely and if you flatten the bow a lot. I wanted to sell these bows online but now I don't know if I should...If I do they'll be at a lower price. I'll be sure to get thicker white fabric next time for sure.
Anyways, while I think about that, here are some pictures!
The Tooth stamped bows! I made a couple with two rows of teeth, to make it look like a mouth and those are my favourites!
The Candy stamped bows. Not a favourite but still a fun design.
The Fly stamped bows. I really like this one but the design is too big for my small bows. I think I might use this stamp again but maybe when I decide to make a shirt or skirt.
The Mushroom stamped bows. I like how this one turned out too, I like it better in red though.
So in a couple weeks when I go to get some new fabric again (better plain white fabric) I'll make some new bows, and by then I'll probably have some new stamps too.

What stamp should I make next? Any Ideas?
More candy? Bugs? what do you think?

Art Comics by James Marontate

Today I'd like to how off some cool comics (or zines) by James Marontate! Not only does he make these comics but he is an animator too. (And we go to the same conventions together) So if you're into comics, zines or collecting fun doodles you should check out his work and show some support.
He sells physical copies of his comics in his Etsy shop. But you can also find a comic available in PDF form on Gumroad. Find him and more of his artwork on his blog and Facebook
Below are a few examples of his work. :]
The above images are from 'Super Space Boy Adventures' available here and here.
The above images are from, 'Inktober' available here.

WIP: Tribal Deer

I just wanted to share a quick little screen shot of what I've been working on. Still lots to do. Haven't even started the antlers but it's coming along...

Eternal Girl Necklaces

I wanted to show off some of Julia's awesome necklaces. I wore one of them in, What I Wore: Nerdy Cat post. She runs a shop called Eternal Girl (as well as a blog!) and it's full of these very cute designs she puts on necklaces, but she also has some rings! Not only are these designs cute and fun but even the boxes they come in are pretty... so pretty, I still have mine.

She is offering you guys 15% off with the code; ANGEL15.

So go grab a fun new necklace (or ring) from her shop!
Below I've listed a few of my favourites from her shop but she also updates her shop with new designs all the time so don't forget to check it out too. :]
 Love this one!

Total Drama Island Credits

So I haven't done a post yet about my job/work on Total Drama All Stars and Total Drama: Pahkitew Island (seasons 5 and 6) because we're still finishing up season 6. But Total Drama All Stars has aired already. And I always go and try to look at the credits for my name. Because that is what I do, I like seeing my name in credits on shows I've worked on.
Well there I am, third name under 'Animators'. Yes my name is spelt wrong, it happens a lot and I am at peace with it. Haha.

Sketchbook Sketches

It's been so long since I've posted some sketches from my sketchbook. It looks like I only really do it now once or twice a year If I'm lucky. Most of my artwork is done using my cintiq, which is fine... but it doesn't have the same feel. Well here a a couple of sketches I did during Christmas break.
I love how she turned out. I can see her with red or blonde hair.
This one didn't turn out so great but something about her face I really like...
My favourite. This bear wearing a tribal scarf turned out so cute! Can't wait to clean him up and get some prints made of him.
A rough sketch of my plans for a tribal pattern deer. Lines are guides for the rows of designs. Still some tweaking to do but can't wait to get started on this one.

Weekend Doodle

I drank too much of my energy drink last night and was wide awake. So I ended up drawing this last night while watching a bunch of witch documentaries. Pretty interesting stuff.

Grojband goes Sailor Moon again...

My first digital doodle of the year and it's (the rare) fan art. Ha! I actually sketched this around the same time I did the first drawing of 'Grojband goes Sailor Moon' (back in Aug 2013!) but never got around to doing anything with it. I looked around for my original sketch but couldn't find it...I think I posted the sketch on Tumblr but too lazy to look there. You know how my sketches are... messy.
Anyways I decided to do this as a sort of warm up, to get back into using my cintiq. I really like how it turned out. I got lazy with the line work but I think it turned out pretty neat.
New episodes of season one should be coming out some time this month. I think they're planning to air the new episodes in the States in March and September for Canada. :[
I'm so excited because those episodes are awesome and some of my favourites! My favourite part about all this is seeing all the GIF's posted on Tumblr. You better believe I'll be reblogging the shots I worked on.

Goals for 2014!

Now that we are in 2014, it's time to make up some goals for the new year!
1. Ukulele
I want to keep practicing the ukulele. Atleast a few times a week (even once a week would be great) and learn more songs! Maybe get the courage to make a video? I have a real problem with playing and singing at the same time. So I hope I can get better, even if its a few simple songs...

2. Keep active and Hula Hoop
Keep up with my hula hooping. Look into more classes (especially in the colder months) and practice more. Get better at the tricks I already know and try learning some new ones on my own. Also just stay active in general. Look into some cool classes/things I can do weekly, be it more hula hooping, yoga classes, volunteering, running in the morning....or joining the gym... okay maybe not that...

3. Sketch more
Pretty simple. I want to sketch more and post them on here. I used to have an almost weekly sketch post back in the day and I'd like to get back into that. I'd prefer to post sketches from my sketchbook but I know sometimes it's easier to just sketch on my cintiq. So for this one, either or will do. As long as I'm drawing.

4.Take more selfies
Yeah, this is a weird one. I used take a lot of picture of myself when I was in high school (I think we all did?) But I slowed down and then stopped once I got into college. For a while I didn't care about pictures of myself but looking back at the last year I can only find a few photos of myself. And out of those only a handful I actually like. (e.g. A few years back, I dyed my hair pink and I only have 2 pictures to show I actually had pink hair and both pictures suck!) I need to get comfortable again with being in front of the camera. I want to better document my life and how I change. You might have noticed I already started taking some small steps a few months ago. (like, trying to take a picture of myself when I look decent, before I leave the house and trying to take pictures with my paintings, instead of just the painting on it's own.) So, this might mean more 'what I wore' posts, a photo an hour posts or maybe just more instagram selfies, not sure yet.

5. Learn to crochet
This is something I've always wanted to learn how to do. I looked into it last year but never went farther than that. Even if I'm not good at it, I want to atleast try it. Maybe make a scarf or something...

6. Design a character
In flash! Something I want to practice doing is designing in programs more. Plus once it's been designed then I can use it for animation! Win-win.

7. Make some clothes
With the new sewing machine I got for Christmas I'd love to use it as much as I can! Ideally I'd like to make a dress. I should start out small, make a shirt or something. I have so many ideas!

8. Design my own fabric
Yes this is another one of those things I've always thought about doing. I'd like to get some fabric that is original and one of a kind, all me! Wouldn't my designs look great on a bow or as a dress?

9. Cook and Bake
I think it was in 2011 (or 2010?) when I baked a lot. I wasn't so into cooking, my thing was cookies and cakes. But then I realized that I was eating a lot of these not-so-healthy snacks... and I stopped, completely. Well I'd love to get back into it, try some new recipes that I've never tried before, bake some vegan or just healthier cookies and cakes. I've already started with these stuffed peppers (they turned out great and I want to make them again!!), I can't wait to try some new things. It gets boring eating the same things over and over.

10. Wolf Tattoo
I had planned to get a couple of tattoos this year, but it seems now like money may be tight for a few months. Plus other things always come up... All I really want, is to get my wolf tattoo done. I will save up for this! I want this to happen. If I can only get one tattoo done this year. It will be my wolf.

Did you make any goals for the year?

Panda in Tribal Sweater

So I've had this Tribal Panda (wearing a tribal sweater) done for a while now, just kept forgetting to take some pictures of it. (And these pictures are a bit old anyways) I know for a fact I will have prints made of the Tribal Sloth painting I did earlier, but I'm not so sure about this one. I may just sell it and get no prints made of it. It's not that I don't like this painting, I just don't 'love it'.
But I do really love his little collar!
Same details as the other painting, done with acrylic paints on a 30x22.5cm wood canvas.

I have a little owl painting half finished and I already started sketching out a Tribal Shark too! So I am still working on stuff, I just slowed down a bit because of Holidays and work.

Review: December Movies

The last of the movie reviews for 2013. Wow.
Truthfully when I saw the trailer for the first time it was just a little short one with the reindeer and the snowman and I remember thinking, 'No thanks.' Then later I saw a longer trailer for it and I thought 'That looks like Tangled.' In the end I decided I wanted to see it because it was Disney's newest movie and well, animation! So over all the movie was okay. It wasn't amazing and it felt like there was too much singing going on. I liked the second half of the movie more than the first. When I first saw the snowman in trailers I didn't like him at all but seeing him move around and interact with the other characters made me really like him. Got the most laughs from him and the reindeer actually. There was also a weird part where the one sister was kind of moving... well, too sexy for me. This is an animated movie for kids and it just looked wrong to me. And other than the story being kind of 'meh', the animation was beautiful! Like, wow. Such real reactions and expressions

Recommend? Yeah
Re-watch? Maybe for the animation
47 Ronin
Justin and I got to see a free early screening of this movie at the beginning of the month. The trailer makes it look way more exciting than it actually was. The movie kind of felt long and there were parts where I was actually bored. (Which is sad because I love movies like this. I love Japanese culture, I love action movies, I love samurai etc.) But this movie was a disappointment. I picked out this movie poster because they are advertising this guy like crazy, (he goes by skull boy or skeleton boy.) Yeah he was in the movie for like 2 seconds. He had one line! And he is all over the posters and trailers, wtf? My favourite part would have to be the witch girl. She was pretty cool. Unfortunately they spoiled a lot of cool things she does in the trailers... so there was no big surprise at the end.

Recommend? Maybe on cheap night. probably wait to rent it.
Re-watch? Probably no.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Last year I saw part one on Christmas Day, (I think?) with Justin's family. This year I saw part two a few days after Christmas, with my own family. Even though I liked part one, it was okay... I loved part two. There are a few slow-ish parts but the second half of the movie was amazing... the dragon. Guys, the dragon was amazing! He was beautifully designed, beautifully animated and the voice was perfect. It sort of reminded me of the dragon from 'Dragon Heart', in a good way. Once the dragon was on screen I was at the edge of my seat. Eyes glued to the screen. So good, I just want to re-watch the second half of the movie over and over.

Recommend? Yes!
Re-watch? Yes!!
American Hustle
This movie was so good! I loved the story and all the characters. Everyone did such a great job acting too. Maybe the movie felt a bit long at times, because it is a bit long but worth a watch. I loved Jennifer Lawrence in this too. Her character was so cute. I don't really have much else to say about this one. I liked it. I don't need to watch it again but I'd definitely recommend it to others.

Recommend? Yep.
Re-watch? Maybe, but probably no.
Anchorman 2
Oh my, this movie was hilarious! We ended up watching this one on New Years Eve and I'm so glad I picked this one. I will admit that near the end of the movie it got a bit too crazy for me, I spend most of the time going 'whaaaaat?' but other than that so funny! Also, so many other people were in this movie too. Anyways that is all I have to say.

Recommend? Yes!
Re-watch? Probably yes!

Best movie of the month: The Hobbit, for... Smaug. Smaug was awesome!
Worst movie of the month: 47 Ronin, for being a bit of a disappointment.
Honourable mention(s): Anchorman 2, for being super funny.

In 2013 I...

It's time for one of my favourite posts of the year... the recap of the past year! 2013 was probably one of the best years for me. I started the year with a good job but ended up leaving that job for a better one with a longer contract. So I had steady work all year! (Yes, that's a big deal to me.) I animated like crazy and learned a lot. (I won't be able to show off my updated reel until later in the year though) Seriously, the year was just overall great I don't have many negative things to say other than the start of 2014 is going to be a bit rough. But I'm not going to get into that.

Here is a list of some of the highlights from the year, in random order.
In 2013 I...
went on a road trip with my best friend Tania, for one week to Tobermory!
painted more tribal pattern things! This sloth one is my current favorite.

I opened up my first online shop!
 played with spraklers!
shared one of my go-to desserts. A simple cracker pudding cake recipe.
posted over 10 nail art designs. (not as many as I used to do) These sweet tooth ones were my favourite!
helped design a shop sign and logo for a new bake shop! Plus a few cupcake paintings.
posted a couple of my favourite outfits.
shared a table at Fan Expo again. It was so much fun. We had a full house too.
finally got Captain neutered.
visited the new Ripley's Aquarium of Canada!
worked on a couple of cool shows like; Sidekicks, Total Drama Island and Grojband!
went to the Toronto Zombie Walk again!
shared a table with Justin at the Toronto ComiCon for the first time, and we loved it!
doodled on my cintiq. (this one is still not done.)
had my own table at Atomic Lollipop! It was an interesting experience.
went camping with a bunch of friends. It was our first time going together, plus with Cap.
thrifted a bit. Here is a thrifting video too!
shared some pictures of our apartment. I hope to do another post like this next year because some things have changed.

Other things that happened in 2013;
Watched over 55 movies in theatre, took a lot of pictures with my Fisheye camera, completed my Roseanne DVD set (and watch them all like crazy), got a 3DS XL, been dying my hair funky colours again, buying more dresses, took as many hula hoop classes as I could, bough my first Sailor Moon doll, got a new computer for my birthday, and I also got a ukulele for my birthday!

I also want to take a moment to appreciate you, the reader. You are awesome! Thank you for all your encouraging comments on my posts, especially my artwork. For a long time I didn't get many comments about my artwork (i'm talking in person), but the internet is such a big place with so many people, I'm glad to have found people who really enjoy my work (and sometimes want to buy it.) Seriously you make blogging more fun, you make me want to share more and you make me happy.
And I thank you for that. :]

P.S. You can check out recaps from 2011 and 2012 too.
