What I wore: Roundup 1

If you follow me on Instagram than you've probably already noticed that I've been posting my (almost) daily outfits there. I don't remember what made me want to start but there's a full length mirror at work (I haven't had a full length mirror for about 4 years, still don't have one... and yes it bothers me.) and I come in early enough that usually I have the bathroom to myself long enough to snap a picture.

Anyways I'll probably keep up with posting these, I know eventually I'll not be posting as many outfit pictures because I repeat outfits, a lot. But who knows, this sort of inspires me to mix things up, since I can actually see what I've been wearing lately. Well, these are my favourites from the last week or two. If you see me wearing any tights or leggings and I don't say where they're from it's because I can never remember. It's safe to say they're probably from Walmart or Target though.

I made a dress!

I made a dress. I made a dress. I made a dress. Hey, hey, hey, HEY! So I decided I would finally try my hand at making my own dress. My goals were to try to finish it within a weekend (It only took me about half a day.) and to make sure it fit me. And it does! I used this DIY video by Annika of The PIneneedle Collective. (she has a bunch of other videos too!)
Obviously I made a ton of mistakes. It's my first one so I was expecting it. But hey now I know what to fix and tweak for next time. And the will be a next time! I can't wait to get some more fabric. I love fabric shopping and my stocks are running low right now.
I took a few pictures of me wearing the dress. You know, to show you how it looks and fits. I'm actually pretty happy with it. I had some problems with the top. It's not at all how I'd like it. I made the straps way too far apart. But the circle skirt part was surprisingly easy and fun for me.
Please excuse my 'resting bitch face'. I don't know why I didn't try smiling for these pictures. I guess I was more interested in what was on TV at the time. But it's not about my face, it's about the dress, guys!
Some IG pictures. My 'blue print' for the top part of the dress and a WIP shot.
This is the best back view of the dress you're getting. There is a reason for that. It's horrible! Haha.
And here is a close up, you can really tell the top is a bit baggy on me. Okay, so lets talk about some of the stuff I learned...

The good; I did it. I made a dress! The dress fits, a little baggy up top but it fits. I like the length of the dress and even though the top is baggy I was afraid that the arm holes would be too small or something. I like the fabric design I picked. My first big sewing project!

The bad; I probably used the wrong material, I just found some cheap fabric because I knew I'd screw this up. I made the top so big that I had to take it in, a lot! The straps at the front and the straps are the back are different. They don't line up. (Ones wider than the other) I screwed up the back, it does not look nice at all. I got a zipper that was way too lon.

For next time; Make the top a little smaller. Straps closer to the neck. Make the waist band thicker, because i think it would look nicer on me. Don't rush the back. Get a shorter zipper.

Overall thought, like I said at the top. I am super happy that I even finished this. I probably won't wear this out. I'm afraid that it'll just fall apart...haha, plus the back isn't nice looking at all. But maybe I could get away with wearing it with a cardigan? So who knows, maybe I'll try it on one day, wear it out to the park or something. Even if it's just for a few hours. Right now the dress is hanging up on one of my walls in my work room. I like looking at it.

Have you ever made a dress? Or pants/shorts? I bet something more fitted is harder to do.

I'll admit, I have not been sketching in my sketchbook as much as I would like to be. But these are the only two sketches that I like. I've been sketching a lot of garbage lately. You know... feeling drained when I get home and just want to do nothing.
A doodle I did a while ago that I kind of like. I want to make more artwork that has it's own frame in it.
Don't remember what I was going for with this one. I think I just wanted to draw a woman's body. And then I guess it turned into a 'mother earth' sort of thing. I really like it. Once I finish some other drawings that still need to be finished, I'll start on this one!

P.S. Sorry for the bad scans. Thin paper plus old scanner equals this!

Zoo visit

Yes! It's the yearly visit to The Toronto Zoo. I visit the Zoo at least once a year, usually around this time of the year. Went with some friends this time around, It's nice going in a group sometimes. I didn't end up taking that many pictures but here are a couple that I really liked.
Probably my favourite shot from the day.
A bunch of kids had tables set up all around the park, I'm assuming it was their final year projects or something. Some of them had some cool displays.
I don't think I've ever gotten a good shot of the cheetahs... well until now. They were right near the window that day.
The new baby giraffe. So cute. There's a little video I took, on IG of him freaking out over something he saw. It's pretty cute!
Another baby polar bear. (Not the same one from last year.) This ones a new one. He was licking the fence...
And I finally got to see the new Pandas. The Zoo got them some time last year but when I was there last, their exhibit was still under construction. Anyways they are pretty cute. Apparently they're already trying to breed them.
Sadly no good pictures of the Wolves this visit. I only saw one outside in the exhibit but he was sleeping.

Review: April Movies

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This movie was a lot of action. A lot! Although there were some points in the movie were the camera was shaking and moving so fast and then you hear a 'punching sound effect' and then a guy laying on the ground really quick. And I'm like... I guess someone got punched? I came to see a movie, I wanna see the punches! It wasn't all like that just some parts. The fight scenes with each main character were awesome. So well done. A lot of "Ohhh, that move was cool!" I never got really into the movie, like end of my seat... but it was still really good. Just putting it out there that there are two Easter eggs. One at the end of the movie and one at the very end of the credits. The Easter egg at the very end of the credits, isn't worth waiting for. (In my opinion) You can if you want to but you're not learning anything new from that one.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Oh man, what a fun movie. So strange but in a great way! This is one of those movies I'd love to watch again (and possibly own) just so I can catch anything I might have missed the first time. So many great actors too! I guess if you like Wes Anderson movies then you will like this one. Although I do like a lot of his stuff, I did not 'love' Moonrise Kingdom. I mean I liked it but I didn't get why so many people were obsessed over it. (I remember I seeing it on every other blog at one point. Reviews, costumes, DIYs...) But I will say that I liked this movie a lot more. It had a great story and some other things I liked about it but I won't say because I don't want to spoil anything. Haha, I will say that Ralph Fiennes was great in this. Ugh. So good!!
