Nail Art 64: Strawberry

I had the place to myself this weekend. It was so nice. I really needed some alone time. One of the first things I did (after cleaning up a bit) was do my nails and watch some Roseanne. Oh, it feels like its been too long since I've done my nails. These are very similar to these strawberry nails.

Goals for 2014: Update

Well, we're a little over the half way mark for the year now.... and wow this year is flying by! Or is that just me? Anyways I thought it would be a good time to do a little update on my goals for the year.
1. Ukulele (Not really...)
Truthfully I haven't been keeping up with this and it bums me out. I guess I just have too much going on... or maybe I've been lazy. Probably that. But there's still time to turn things around!?

2. Keep active and Hula Hoop (Kind of)
Hmmm, I'm going to say maybe on this one? I finally got into volunteering at the Humane Society with the cats once a week. I know it's not a lot and I don't move around too much but at least I'm doing something. Other than that I've been trying to go out for more walks. I think in a few weeks I may be buying some fancy roller blades! I think it would be fun and maybe even get Cap to go on runs with me.

3. Sketch more (Yes)
I think I've been doing pretty good with this one. I sit down and sketch a couple times a month. I don't always clean up or finish the sketches but at least I'm sketching, right?

4.Take more selfies (Yes)
Yes. A good amount of selfies on my Instagram. Ive even started taking OOTD pictures too. They are fun to do and make me want to mix and match more of my clothes.

5. Learn to crochet (Nope)
Nope. Haven't even though much about this one. It's summer right now. I just want to be outside. I think once it gets a little cooler I'll look into it.

6. Design a character (Nope)
I thought I would do this if I was still unemployed for a couple of months. But since I'm working full time I am way too busy. but you never know I might still do this one. Just sit down and get it down one weekend maybe?

7. Make some clothes (Yes!)
Dress #1 and dress #2. Soon there will be a dress #3. I am on a roll. Making clothes is fun!

8. Design my own fabric (Nope)
Not yet... But I am thinking about it. It's just so darn expensive.

9. Cook and Bake (Not really)
Oh, I haven't been too consistent with this one. I don't have much time to cook or bake anything, only on weekends. And I like to spend my weekends relaxing... and making dresses apparently.

10. Wolf Tattoo (Yes)
Yes! But its not finished yet. :]

Animation Reel 2014

I totally forgot that I had updated my reel! It's still not the most up to date version but it's got a bunch of Grojband stuff in it. So I thought, why not put it on the old blog. What do you think?

Jun 16, 2014

Doing: Lots of working, some sewing, some volunteering with the cats.

Thinking about: How I haven't finished my munny yet. And I have like 2 or 3 digital drawings that are only half done. I should really finish those.

Watching: Orange is the new black, The 100, Heartland... I know there's a few more shows but I can't think of them right now.

Looking forward to: Fan Expo. I know it's still a bit of ways away but I always get excited for it. It's such a big convention and a super fun weekend for me!

Reading: Whatever comic books Justin gives me. I've been slacking though. :[

Loving: My hair! It's such a cool light blue colour right now. Some parts of it are almost white.

Niagara Falls Comic Con Video

I forgot that I took a little video while in Niagara Falls, it's just me waling around the convention. Nothing super exciting but I thought I'd post it here anyways. For those people who have never been to a convention, this is what it's like walking around through one.

P.S. I sped the video up a bit so it may make you a bit dizzy. haha.

Niagara Falls Comic Con Part 2

Here's part 2 of the Niagara Falls Comic Con. For this con, Justin had a bunch of new prints so I only brought my bows, so he could have more table room for his stuff. We sold a lot, Justin even sold one of his paintings. (The screaming batman) The bows were a hit with the girls and a few boys too. Whenever I sell out of a bow or have a good sales day it gets me pumped to go fabric shopping. I have so many ideas now. Anyways here's the rest of the pictures...
I wore my Care Bear dress for most of the con. I mean, why not? it's super bright and fun. The day before we left my petticoat came in. It's the first time I've ever worn one. I really like how this dress looks like, with one on. (So I made sure I got a picture of me wearing it) I don't know if it would work with every dress but for this one, it's a yes!
Fun story, I got complimented and stopped a bunch of times to have my picture taken. One time when I was walking to get snacks, someone in a moving car stopped me for a picture. Ha!
First time I turned the corner I thought this was a dude in a costume. Freaky!
Some very cool cosplayers. I actually didn't see too many. (Nothing compared to Fan Expo) But it seemed like a lot of people that were dressed up didn't go through the artist alley. Bummer.
I found a way to the second floor. This was an hour before the con was closing so it was pretty dead. But look at how bright and colourful it looks!
So that was the basically the Niagara Falls Comic Con. I'd say it's somewhere between how Fan Expo and Toronto Comic Con is. It's busy but not super busy. There was more than enough room for people to move around. Everything was labelled well. No pushy or rude people. And there was a good mix of both Canadians and Americans at this con. Which is very fun! I have nothing bad to say. I really hope we get the chance to go again and watch this con grow. :]

P.S. Hello to the girl that follows me and bought some stickers. I was so flustered that I didn't catch your name. I'm a horrible person. I'm so sorry! >.<

Niagara Falls Comic Con Part 1

I am back from a weekend at Niagara Falls! Not only was it a little vacation for us but it was also our first time selling at a convention that wasn't in Toronto. (It's like we're expanding, we've already signed up for two conventions in Windsor!) We were excited and a little nervous. Long story short; we had a great time and we did well! Well enough that we're probably going to The Niagara Falls Comic Con next year!
Setting up our table. But it wasn't just a table. We had a whole booth! So much leg room, it was nice. We don't get anything like this at Fan Expo... we were very spoiled that weekend.
We ended up going for a bit of a walk around the area. Obviously we had to spend some money at the arcade and pig out on junk food.
Lots of fun old motel signs around. Look at the yellow doors. I kind of wanted to stay at this place next time but on our way back to our motel, I noticed how empty it was. Probably not a good sign...
Different day, heading to the falls... because when you go to Niagara Falls, you go look at the falls.
Justin took a decent picture of us. First time for everything, I guess. :]
I thought I was getting mad air on my jumps but I guess I was wrong. At least my hair looks kind of cool... Justin's picture looks pretty sweet, right?! He's a natural.
I'll be back tomorrow with the last part, part 2 of our trip to Niagara Falls for the convention! I promise part 2 has way less pictures of us...

Review: May Movies

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
I'm so glad that the movie wasn't as 'busy' as the trailer made it seem. I mean the trailer was all over the place. Too much! Anyways, not an amazing movie, but it did keep me entertained. Very campy with some silly jokes and one liners but hey, that's how Spider-Man is, right? We all knew what was going to happen in this movie. No one was really surprised but overall I had fun. It wasn't a disappointment.

Recommend? Sure
Re-watch? Maybe?
What a fun movie. It seriously has felt like, forever since I've seen a funny movie in theatres... I guess everyone else was thinking the same thing too cause the theatre was packed. Which usually I don't like because people don't know how to behave themselves most of the time. But it was nice to be in a laughing theatre for once! So the movie was pretty good, I liked it. There was also a good amount of shirtless Efron. They didn't actually use the fact that they had a baby that often in this movie. I mean at the beginning they did and by the second half the baby was always with the baby sitter or something. I also gotta say that this movie was mainly another bromance movie. The Mom character had nothing really going for her. Which made me upset but whatever. Overall I laughed a lot, and that was the main reason I wanted to see this movie. Some good one liners too.

Recommend? Yes
Re-watch? Probably?
One of those special movies for us, that we have to go see in a nice big theatre and in IMAX. We've actually seen a couple of movies in IMAX this year, way more than we have in past years. Anyways, guys. If you haven't already seen this movie. Go. See it! You won't be disappointed, I promise. Godzilla was so nicely animated! Ugh, I loved how he moved and his expressions. Some good acting at the start of the movie, then some...okay acting... but overall I was so happy! You don't know how into the movie I got, especially during the climax of the movie! I've already seen this movie twice in theatres. So yes, I really liked it.

Recommend? Yes!
Re-watch? Yes!!
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Okay so... I didn't like this. No wait. I did like it. I guess I just wasn't blown away? It's hard to explain how I feel about this movie. To me it felt like there wasn't any climax. (It was just a straight line.. no ups or downs. No climax.) Even when stuff was really happening I was just...meh. The acting was fine, everything was fine. It was good. I guess I was just expecting more. Something different, maybe? After we saw this, I told Justin that we should have seen this movie before Godzilla, because seriously I'm still excited about that movie. So excited that its affecting my ability to watch and enjoy other movies. Can that happen? is that a thing? Well I guess it is for me... This movie poster is pretty cool.

Recommend? Sure, everyone else seemed to have really liked it.
Re-watch? I think I may have to!

I made a dress: Care Bears

The weekend after I made my first dress, I went out to get some more fabric to make another dress. I enjoyed making that first dress so much. I was really excited to make another one to see if I could fix some of my mistakes from the first dress. I went to a few fabric shops in Toronto and I did find a few I really liked but they were pricey! The last place I went to I found this fabric kind of hidden under some other kid fabric. The rainbows are what caught my eye, haha.
I also ended up picking up some Barbie fabric, but I don't think I'll be making that dress for a few weeks. June looks like it'll be a busy month for me. Anyways, on to some pictures!
Look, it's actually fitted! I learned that I had to add extra darts because of my bigger bust. The darts I added aren't perfect. They don't exactly line up.. but it's better than having a sack for a dress.
And here's the back. Not too bad. I guess looking at these pictures the length of the dress is fine but I would have preferred it to be a bit longer. I think next time I'm going to try to make the top part of the dress a bit longer.
The good; This second dress is way better! So glad I improved, enough so that I will wear this dress in public. It's cute, it's colourful. Great for conventions! I learned about adding extra darts to the top. I actually washed this dress already and used fabric softener too and it survived. The back of the dress is sooo much better too.

For next time; Make sure the darts I add are lined up and make them look nice. make the dress a bit longer. Probably make the top longer because the skirt already uses so much fabric. Make the neck line lower. Try a side zipper. Try adding sleeves or a collar.

P.S. I showed my mom some of the pictures of the new dresses I made and she was pretty shocked that I made them. She went out and bought me some fabric that wasn't 'childish' (her words), so expect a more 'adult looking' dress in the future. The fabric she picked out isn't bad just not something I'd pick out for myself.
