In 2014 I...

Well it's that time of the year again. Time for the yearly recap! This year has been a pretty good one for me. I started the year with a new job (in a pretty big studio) and I'll be working there into the new year. I haven't been hurting for money but the job has kept me pretty busy. You may have noticed that I started blogging less and less as the months went on. It happens! But don't worry, I won't be giving up on this blog. It's like my little online journal/scrap book. I have lots of ideas and plans for the new year. Firstly I will be updating the layout. So look out for that.

Here is a list of some of the highlights from the year, in random order.

In 2014 I...
Started a youtube channel.
Made my first batch of hand stamped hair bows
Updated my Etsy shop with new art work and print sizes. Made over 30 sales!
Did more Conventions!
Dyed my hair purple, blue, teal/mint and orange.
 Visited Medieval Times! (twice)
Started taking pictures of my outfits at work.
Started sewing and made my first dress
Visited the Zoo.
Finished my tribal Munny.
Watched some movies. (over 40 movies in theatre!)
Attended the Toronto Zombie walk!

Other things that happened in 2014;
Started working out. Put my paintings up in my Etsy shop. Started making headbands and neck ties (and selling them at conventions). Re-read all the Sailor Moon mangas. Updated my animation reel. Re-arranged my craft room. Bought our first (new) bed.

I also want to thank you all! Without you clicking, commenting and following me my little blog wouldn't be as fun. (Plus it's more fun when you get some feedback about stuff) I appreciate every click, every tweet, and every like. Seriously, thank you!

I Hope your year was good! If it wasn't that great, remember.. you can choose to focus on the good or the bad. I say, focus on the good!

See ya next year. :]

Goals for 2014: Recap

Before I go over everything I just wanted to talk a bit about my goals, in general this year. I feel like, I put a lot on my plate. I stressed myself out. And that is not cool. I might have made way too many goals for myself. I'm just one person and I can't do everything. I'm the kind of person that would rather be great at a couple of things than be 'okay' at many things.

So why did I do that to myself this year? I don't know! I guess I got a bit excited. There are so many things I want to learn to do but I just can't do it all! I'm just putting this out there for future me to read... you can't do it all! And that is okay. :]

Anyways, recap of the goals...
1. Ukulele (Nope)
This is one goal I really wanted to accomplish. I mean, I have this super cute ukulele just sitting there, begging to be playing. Anyways, other things got in the way. Well, not in the way but you know... life.

2. Keep active and Hula Hoop (Ehhh....)
I did volunteer at the Humane Society for a few months. I had to stop going though, it was taking too much time (to get there and get home) and it was out of my way to go there every week. But I did have a lot of fun when I was going and I do hope to be able to volunteer again in the future.
I did end up getting myself some roller blades. I have only gone around the park a handful of times. So that is a bit of a bummer but I did buy them late in the year...
As for hula hooping, I signed up for classes again in October and have been going a couple times a month. I don't really have the space to practice at home so I'm not seeing huge improvements but its getting there. I'm sure once it warms up again I'll be hooping in the park on weekends.

3. Sketch more (Kind of)
I was doing okay with this one for the first half of the year. And then convention season came and I just got busy with all the sewing and prepping for the shows.

4.Take more selfies (Yep)
This ones been an easy one for me because it's easy to do and fun. I have a good amount of selfies on my Instagram. As well as OOTD pictures.

5. Learn to crochet (Nope)
This never happened! haha. Oh well!

6. Design a character (Nope)
Also never happened because I'm working full time. I do plan on still doing this, one day when I have free time, like when I'm in between jobs or something?
7. Make some clothes (Yes!!)
Dress #1. Dress #2. Dress #3. Skirt #1. Top #1. And I can't wait to make more in 2015!

8. Design my own fabric (Nope)
This one didn't happen but I do plan on doing this next year. I just have to sit down and get everything organized.

9. Cook and Bake (Nope)
This also did not happen. Haha. Probably for the best though...

10. Wolf Tattoo (Yes!)
Yes. My wolf tattoo on my arm is all done. I even got to start and finish my leg tattoo!
Did you make any goals for the year? Did you accomplish any?

Christmas Snaps

I just wanted to make a quick post about Christmas this year. This was the first year that Justin came over to my families side for Christmas. Normally we do our separate thing for Christmas and Justin usually takes Captain to his families home because it's just easier. I've gone for Christmas with his family a few times now and Justin's never come over for mine, until now.

This was also Captains first time visiting my families home. They aren't dog people or even pet people... well they like animals but they don't like the mess they leave. Anyways the deal was that Captain had to be in socks whenever he was upstairs so he wouldn't scratch up their new floors. Luckily, Cap didn't mind having the socks on. He never tried taking them off but they slipped off his paws a lot.
Here is a shot of Cap laying right in front of the kitchen, which is where my Mom and I were for three days straight cooking and getting things ready for our Christmas Eve dinner (no meat) and then for our Christmas day/Boxing day dinners. (lots of meat!)
An early Christmas gift from Justin. He found me an old land camera. I don't know if it works. I found out I can't see anything from the view finder. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know!
Some homemade perogies. Half were filled with cheese and potato and the other half were mushrooms and cabbage.
I didn't take any pictures of our Christmas Eve dinner, which is the 'special' dinner. It's not that fancy, its more about the meaning behind it all. But this is a few days after. With all the good stuff on the table. Most importantly the cabbage rolls and ribs! Mmmz.
The pillow covers I made for my Mom. Pillow covers are so easy to make. I can't wait to make some more for myself!
And that's about it. I didn't take many pictures while I was home because I was busy helping with cooking and cleaning... and when I wasn't doing that I was just chilling. But I wanted to remember this year by what few pictures I did take.

I hope you had a great Holiday or just a great week. I'm planning to update the blog a bit over next week. I think it's time for a bit of change over here.

Doing: Some light cleaning, packing clothes and hanging out with Justin before I go home for Christmas week. (He's meeting me at my parents house a few days later)

Eating: These chocolates a friend made for Christmas. Mmm.

Thinking about: How we're going to re-arrange the living room to fit our new stationary bike. Yes we started buying gym equipment so we can get into better shape. No excuses now! Haha.

Watching: I've been watching a lot of Raising Hope after work. It's a pretty fun/cute show.

Looking forward to: A week of no work. I love my job but I am feeling burnt out. I can't wait to sleep in and pig out on yummy food.

Reading: Very little. Big stack of comic books waiting for me on my desk...

Loving: My new hair! It turned out so cool. Not what I was expecting but I like it. I'm also loving my new Of Montreal record.

I Made a Dress + Skirt

I made this dress and skirt a while ago but I totally forgot to make a blog post about it. I'm doing it now because I want to document/remember all the stuff I made (sewed) myself. Sorry for the not-so-great cell phone pictures. I never got around to taking 'proper' pictures and now it's December and there really isn't any time for that now... or daylight. Haha. Anyways, lets talk about this yellow dress first...
So this dress. It's actually a thrifted bed sheet I found months ago. I'll admit, Its probably not the best material for clothing but I just had to make it into something. I had a lot available so I decided to make a dress, making this dress #3!! Still learning what works for my body, I'm having a hard time with the top part. The middle waist line band... always ends up being very high in the front and low in the back. Can't seem to make it even all around. I blame the boobs!

This isn't a dress I would wear every, like the Care Bear dress, I'll be wearing this one to conventions or possibly for future Zombie Walks.
Look at my cute skirt! Just some regular grey/brown fabric I bought a while ago to practice making skirts and tops. I need to wear this skirt more this winter. I always forget how comfortable it is. I bought a very stretchy elastic band to use for this and it is a little too stretchy. And I made this one a bit too long but it still works (I think). But next skirt I'm hoping to make it a proper length, use less elastic and maybe use a brighter colour?
I welcome any sewing tips/tricks! I have a lot to learn. :]

Windsor Christmas Comic Con 2014

This past weekend we sold at the Christmas Comic Con in Windsor. This was our second convention in Windsor and our second ever, Christmas/winter convention. Truthfully I wasn't feeling up to all the traveling I had to do and the only other winter convention we went to was kind of a bust. So, I didn't really know what to expect.

Getting to the train station was awful but at least I was in business class on the way there. I had lots of room and ended up just sleeping the whole way. The convention itself was actually very good. It was run by the same people that did the Super Summer Comic Con, but in a different location. I liked this one better than their summer one. It seemed better organized and felt more like I was at a convention, instead of a small art/craft show.

The day went well. It started off good and was busy right off the bat but obviously slowed down throughout the day. This is a convention that I really liked but I'm not 100% sure if we'll both be coming back to sell at this one next year. It costs a lot to travel all the way out there so we shall have to see.

Tribal Deer

It's finally done. Almost a year later and it is done! I posted a WIP shot of this guy back in Jan! It doesn't take me that long to make one of these in Photoshop...maybe a couple of months but never a year. I think I just got busy and forgot that I had this one just sitting on my desktop, waiting to be finished. The sad thing is when I opened it up to finish this, this past weekend it was like, 90% done. Anyways eventually there will be prints of this guy available in my shop! :]

As usual, below there are a few close ups of the Tribal Deer...
I was thinking since the Tribal Sloth is one of my best sellers, I may make another one, but in Photoshop. This way it'll look/be a bit different than the one I have available right now.

Review: November Movies

Lately, almost every time we go see a movie in theatre we sit next to someone who talks throughout the whole movie. Or they keep checking their phone. It's the most annoying thing every seeing people my age or older who can't just sit still for 2 hours to watch a movie. Every time this happens at the beginning of a movie we give it like 5 minutes and if the person is still talking we end up moving seats. And we have done this almost every time in November. Seriously, part of me is thinking I should just pay the extra few bucks and see these movies during the weekday. Because we almost always see movies on cheap night. Sorry for the mini rant but just felt like I had to get that out there. Stop talking during the movie and put your phones away!

Space movie! It was a pretty cool movie. It was a bit long, but didn't feel long. Very beautiful and the acting was awesome. I loved it all except the ending. It just didn't work for me. Other than that, I don't have much else to say about this one.

Recommend? Yes
Re-watch? Probably.
Dumb and Dumber To
I was so excited to hear that they were making another movie! And it did not disappoint! Justin was not interested in seeing this one, so I ended up seeing it with my family on my Dad's birthday. He liked it too! Lots of good laughs. Obviously not as great as the first but still good enough that I would see it again.

Recommend? Yes!
Re-watch? Yep
 Big Hero 6
Overall I liked this movie. It wasn't great and it had some holes in it but still good. The animation was so nice. The robot was the best part for me, he was so cute! I don't have much else to say about this movie. I think its worth a watch, especially if you have kids and/or enjoy animated films.

Recommend? Yes!
Re-watch? Yes!
The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 1
What a long-ass title for movie. I went into this movie feeling excited and came out of it feeling bored and tired. Not that this movie was bad but it wasn't good. They for sure made the last movie into two parts just for the money. No need to make it two parts. Seriously, not much happens. They're just dragging things out. Felt a bit disappointed because we went to the late show for this one on a week night and I came out of it feeling like I should have been sleeping instead, haha. Still excited for the last one though. I know that's the one were stuff really happens.

Recommend? Meh
Re-watch? Probably won't.
